Wind storm damage

December 1, 2011
Here's the result of the category 2 hurricane force winds - that's 102 mph people! that devastated Davis County last night.

Well, some of the results. There's garbage cans from the park, roof from the pavilion, leaves, junk, branches, chairs, and a shattered playground all over the yard too.

Read the full scoop here and here.

Aunt Kimmy

November 29, 2011
My sister came by tonight for dinner and visiting. The kids love it because they have someone to give them attention. I love it because I have someone to talk to and someone to keep my kids from clinging to my legs while I make dinner.

Can't we do something fun yet?

November 28, 2011
Mondays are becoming LOOOONG days without summer's warm weather to get us out of the house. So when Pearl asked me for the bazillionth time if we were ever going to do something fun today and reminding me that Mondays are family home evening nights, I decided to give in and do something fun.

So the boys went for ice cream ("boys date" as Pearl called it) and Pearl and I made some gingerbread houses. I 'd bought a kit with five mini-houses at Walmart for $9 a few weeks back, thinking we'd all sit down for F.H.E. and each make a house. Or that I'd have been more prepared and prepped all the houses before the decorating to save time, boredom, and my tired grip from squeezing thick frosting on everything. The anticipation was much more exciting for Pearl than the actual gingerbreading. But she persevered and finished one house all by herself... well minus the building of the thing and the red icing. Just because I gave in and did something fun, didn't mean I'd lost my "meanest mom ever" streak quite yet.

I have to say, those little houses were pretty dang cute when we were all done. We only finished decorating two of them but at least we will have three more we can decorate the next time Pearl wants to do something fun.

Buddy the elf

November 27, 2011
We have a new friend at our house... Buddy the elf.

Santa Claus sent him to us with a special mission. To report back each night on whether we'd been naughty or nice. After a long journey to the North Pole, Buddy lands somewhere new in our house. Every morning we rush to find him first, eager to see where he's hiding. He has to find a new spot everyday so he can keep an eye on us. But you can't touch Buddy. You see, touching him might make him loose his magic and then he wouldn't be able to fly back to the North Pole and tell Santa if we should stay on the nice list or get bumped to the naughty list.

We're all hoping Buddy's watchful eyes (and the threat of him telling Santa we didn't listen to our Mom, clean up our messes, or share with our brother) helps keep us all on our best behavior during this magical time of year.

We're goin' bowling!

November 26, 2011
Today was the USU football team's last home game of the season. Senior day. A chance to redeem their heartbreaking start to the season with more than a few last second losses (um... BYU you still suck).
A time to beat Nevada, whom they haven't won at home since 1950. 1950 people! And chance to go to a bowl game with a win. Oh, and I was there! I mean, I'm not about to go sit and freeze my butt off at Romney Stadium in November but this game had the potential to be epic.

No pressure.

And epic it was! The Aggies "nutted it up" as I like to term it, and pulled out a win in the last minutes of the game. It was awesome to see how excited the players were! I hate to even admit I said this.... and I'm sure Jeff will die from embarrassment if he reads this, but my exact thoughts as I was watching our team jumping up and down, slapping each others' rear ends, and hugging on the field, was "that's so cute." I know. I'm not much of a football gal. But I did feel the urge to yell profanity at and taunt Nevada's players earlier in the game. I just don't know enough about the game to make educated chants without looking like a complete fool. So instead, I happily joined in the cheering when we won.

I'm not thankful for anything

November 25, 2011
Each year we write down things we are grateful for on leaves and then stick them on our Blessing Tree. I'm hoping it will teach my kids to appreciate all the blessings we have. And lessen the wailing when I tell them we're making a D.I. run. Some nights we struggled to think of anything to write down and then other nights we'd come up with a whole bunch of ideas. One night, when Pearl was feeling particularly sassy (I admit I didn't help her mood out by squawking at her over everything), she told me, "I'm not thankful for anything!" with this smug little look on her face. Needless to say, that was one of those days that no leaves made it on the tree.

Here's our list for 2011.
