Playdate

July 29, 2011
Pearl has missed her Benny-boy. The same cute boy we had to tell Pearl she couldn't kiss anymore. It's hard not seeing your boyfriend and future husband every day. A few months ago, Benny-boy and his brother Alex (Cole's buddy) started to stay home with their dad. It was a blessing for them but a sad, sad day for Pearl.

So Cara (Benny-boy's mom) and I arranged a train-themed playdate. We rode the FrontRunner train all the way to Ogden and met them at Union Station. We then explored the train museum, gun museum, and car museum. Ben and Pearl climbed up and down all the trains that have been decommissioned, while Cole tried to follow and Alex happily went along with whatever the rest of us were doing. They were so excited to see each other and walked around holding hands... I so wish I would have stopped gabbing with Cara to take a picture of it!

We all had a really fun time catching up. And when we finally parted ways, there were some tears. Some from hunger and much needed naps, some from not getting to pick out just the M&Ms from the trail mix, but most from having to say goodbye.

Ms. Nora

July 28, 2011
Today was Cole's last day with Ms. Nora.

I am so, so, so sad.

Not only does it mean I can't keep denying the fact that Cole isn't a baby anymore, but it means he won't have the most wonderful, caring, and loving caregiver to watch over him. And, I'll now have to deal with him clinging to my legs and screaming when I leave him in the toddler room at daycare.

Cole absolute loves Ms. Nora. He runs over to her each morning to give her loves. Unlike Pearl, he's only cried a couple of times when I've left him and I credit all of this to Ms. Nora. Ms. Nora has been at our daycare for almost 20 years and has practically raised everyone's kids in the building. Not only that, but she's taught all the first time moms how to really be a mom... when that cough really should be seen by a doctor, help with breastfeeding, encouragement with discipline issues, and so much more. She's been my friend, confidant, and second mom/third grandma to Cole.

There's something to be said for a person who dedicates their whole day to loving, teaching, and caring for our precious babies. She can't be replaced, ever.

Thank you, Ms. Nora.

Water fight

July 27, 2011
I am convinced that men have different hearing than women. There must be something structurally different in a man's ear. That or natures way of ensuring the survival of the human race. It's that difference that allows moms to hear every single cough, sigh, toss, turn, cry, and minute noise coming from their children while dads snore away oblivious to any awakenings throughout the night.

It's also that same difference that translates, "Don't you dare get me wet!" as you wash the car into "Get me wet!" Jeff swears he took my look of death and stern warning as a challenge that I wanted him to chase me around the yard in front of the neighbors, strangers driving by, and two giggling children with a bucket, hose, and water bottle from the fridge.

Needless to say, I lost the water fight. And the car needed another bath.

Fast alseep

July 26, 2011
Pearl has a habit of reading books to all her stuffed animals until she falls asleep. Most nights she gets up and turns off whatever light she has managed to turn on before she falls asleep. But then other nights, we find her like this... with her headlight still on.

I want some Star Wars

July 25, 2011
We had the choice of going to a movie or the pool today.

Without looking outside, I insisted we save the movie for a "bad" weather day. Uh, should have looked at the dark clouds in the sky before lugging the kids to to pool. Needless to say, it wasn't that warm. But kids seem to have this innate ability to ignore shivering, purple lips, and overcast skies when it comes to playing in the water. But the kids had fun.

Despite my weather blunder, I was smart enough to pack a few snacks, even if it took me a good five minutes of bantering back and forth with Pearl before I figured out what she wanted. She kept telling me, "I want some Star Wars!" To which I'd reply, in an annoyed tone of voice, "What do you want? I don't understand you." Finally, she pointed and said, "those star wars, Mom."

Duh.

Dinosaur quarry

July 24, 2011
The ONLY thing we promised Pearl we would do this weekend, is go to the Cleveland Loyd Dinosaur Quarry on our way home from the Peacock Family Reunion in Orangeville. But as family reunions go, we sat around ("dicked" around as Jeff calls it) too long today doing nothing really, waited for my brother to get back from "the edge of the world" up near Joe's Valley - which was an unplanned adventure - and then encountered hungry kids and husbands who needed to eat before heading off. With only an hour before closing, we left the ranch and headed for Cleveland, Utah.

Jeff drove like a madman through 15 miles of "country" roads through the boonies. We pulled in to the quarry with ten minutes to spare, well more like seven minutes to spare. The girls working there were nice enough to let us in for free and walk around the little visitor center. Pearl was pretty disappointed with the lack of dinosaurs. I'm not sure if she thought we'd see real, live dinosaurs or just have more time to go exploring. I felt really bad my lack of time management kept us from going to the actual dig site and that my siblings and niece decided to turn around and skip it all together because they left about 15 minutes after we did. I grabbed every single fee pamphlet I could find as we left, and told Pearl she could read about the dinosaurs in these books. That seemed to make up a little bit for my epic fail moment. At least next year, we'll know to plan an entire day for dinosaur site seeing.

Look-a-likes

July 23, 2011
My siblings and I were fighting over who looked the most alike between the four of us. My sister and brother, Jesse (the one with the hat) are convinced that they look more alike than Kimmy and I do. And I'm the one who wears glasses! They must be blind. It's obvious that my sister and I are the ones that look the most alike. Minus the fact that Kimmy is short and I have about 60 lbs. on her. Jesse and Kimmy have the same thick, dark eyebrows and teeth, I'll give 'em that but that's it. Kurtis? Well, he's the only blonde, blue-eyed of the bunch so he doesn't really look like any of us. But Jesse and him do have luscious, thick locks that make girls jealous.

My mom says we all have the same dad :), so there's got to be some similarities between us. So I'm leaving it up to the rest of you to decide if I'm right... Kimmy and I look the most alike, not her and Jesse.

Zip line

July 22, 2011
I don't post many pictures of myself on the blog, for three reasons.

1. I'm fat. I hate my eyebrows. I have huge gaps in my teeth. And when I see myself in a picture, I'm suddenly faced with the fact that I'm not a super model like I imagine myself to be.

2. I'm usually the one taking the pictures.

And 3. Hmmm... I can't think of a third. But ending with two seemed funny.

So in all my glory, I present to you myself after taking a ride on the zip line. A new addition to the Peacock Reunion fun. My butt barely, and I mean barely as in centimeters, skimmed above the ground because my weak excuse for biceps couldn't lift me up any higher. But it was fun. And no one can call me an old-fuddy-duddy now.

Baby quail

July 21, 2011
We were starting to wonder if we'd ever have any baby quail this year. Typically by July, we've seen at least two or three batches of babies but this year we hadn't seen any. I was almost convinced our wet spring had forced our quail friends to find drier ground in some other neighborhood. Or worse.

Tonight I startled a momma quail by the sprinklers. When she didn't run off right away, I knew she must have babies hiding somewhere. But I only found this little guy. A tiny feather ball, scared and confused. I just happened to have my camera and perched myself on the ground next to our pine tree to get a picture of him. He must have sensed I myself am a momma, because the next thing I knew, he had scampered right up to me. I kept moving back, hoping he would turn and run the other way towards his mom but he'd have none of that. I must ooze safety for baby quails because he climbed up on my foot and then hopped up in my hand. This isn't my favorite picture of the little guy, but it shows you just how tiny baby quails are. You can't even tell they are in your hands they are so light.

By this time Cole had decided he needed some attention from me. And since Cole loves animals, I showed him our tiny friend. Cole started squealing "da da da da" and pointing, trying to grab at the baby quail in my hands. I couldn't see any angry momma quail sitting on our fence and started to worry I had scared her off for good. But every time I put the baby quail down, he'd run back over towards me. He sat in the grass too wet from the sprinkler hitting him to move so I picked him up again and put him in the flower bed. The thought did cross my mind at one point, I'm getting up with Cole all night long anyway, what's another mouth (or in this case, beak) to feed every two hours?

But I'm not that crazy.

So I took him over to the garden, next to our neighbor's fence. The quail usually make their nests next door so I figured my heroic efforts would give him the best chance of survival. I sure hope he found his momma.

Mad scientist

July 20, 2011
We have a similar picture of Pearl wearing these same 3-D sidewalk chalk glasses. It's one of our favorite pictures of her, ever. She's just so funny and inquisitive and the glasses made her look a tad like a mad scientist. Cole was no exception. He also looked the part of mad scientist as he was running around the patio, squealing every time those glasses slipped off, and trying to ride his 4-wheeler with them on. What funny kids we have.

We grow 'em big

July 19, 2011
Growing up my parents had several Shasta daisy plants in our front yard. They were about three feet in diameter, big, giant, balls of gorgeous white flowers. So when Jeff and Pearl re-did the flower bed by our driveway for my Mother's Day present a couple of years ago, I insisted we plant daisies. And under Jeff's green thumb, they have blossomed into
gorgeous, 4 feet tall plants of happiness. I tease Jeff that he can't grow anything right... every plant he has doubles in size from what the tag says it should be! Tomatoes, trees, day lilies, ground cover, (weeds... he he), and daisies.

Smarshmallow Temples

July 18, 2011
Our F.H.E. attempt is still going strong. We've kept at it every week that we haven't been out of town. Song. Lesson. And most importantly, a treat. Jeff has warned me that if I keep this "religious stuff up" I'm going to get thrown in the bishopric. Not me, my friend.

During Primary yesterday, Pearl learned about temples. Her class even made a temple out of marshmallows and toothpicks. She was very excited about. So excited that we decided to put Pearl in charge of F.H.E. tonight. Hence the recreation of the temple "smarshmallows." Pearl made two temples, the tall one in the middle and the short one in the front. My temple is the one on the left, with marshmallow covered corners and the Angel Moroni on top. And Jeff's temple is hidden in the back, with spider legs coming out of the foundation. Cole ate whatever marshmallows we dropped. We all had a fun time. And hopefully, the kids learned how special temples are to us.

Party hat

July 17, 2011
We went over to Trevin's 1st birthday party this afternoon. We love our neighbors. It's easy when there are only two of them and they are both wonderful! You hear about David and Vickie all the time but I hardly ever talk about the Kennard's on the other side of us. They're great too. Three boys, spanning the ages of 363 days to 15. And yes, they were all planned... or so Greg and Tiff tell us! They've gone through their fair share of medical disasters and financial/job hardships since we've known them and yet, they are always so positive and giving to use. Tiff is a super woman. Seriously, she should have a cape of gold attached to her with all the flying around she does... the woman has more energy or needs less sleep than anyone I know.

But back to the party. With Tiff in charge, I knew I was off the hook for dinner because she'd prepare enough food to feed an army. Which she did. There were loads of presents, cake and ice cream, and about a bazillion little cousins running all over the place. We took home party hats, balloons, and ring pops, which Pearl was thrilled about. That kid loves any excuse to have a party! I felt bad because we went over empty-handed, like always. No gift. No food. Nothing but two hungry kids. But in my defense, Greg did forgot to tell us until a few hours before the party started... that's how we roll around here (it goes both ways). Tiff always has a gift for our birthdays and remembers them too. Heck, the only way I remember when it's one of their birthdays is if it's in the ward bulletin at church! I seriously wonder how we were so blessed to have the neighbors we do, considering how little we must give back to them. But I think I've redeemed ourselves for awhile anyway. Just before the presents, Tiff's camera went ka-put and no one had a spare. So I ran home and took pictures for the rest of the evening. Hopefully it makes up even a little for all the friendship they give to us.

Creamy deliciousness

July 16, 2011
It didn't matter that we'd already gone out for ice cream once this week. We were in Logan and I really wanted an Aggie ice cream. Along with half of Cache Valley!

But it's not like we go to Aggie Ice Cream every time we go to Logan. In fact, I think this was the first time Pearl had actually gotten a cone of her favorite - Aggie Blue Mint - and ate it outside on the benches. Jeff went with the ever-popular Lemon Custard and I opted for the Raspberries 'n Cream flavor.

Oh. My. Creamy. Heavenly. Deliciousness.

Peas

July 15, 2011
The only thing Cole wanted to eat for dinner tonight was peas.

He must have some Jewkes blood in him because my grandma would eat an entire grocery sack (or two, or three depending on how many I picked for her) of fresh peas for dinner. And nothing else. My grandpa hated it. He always told us to bring the peas over AFTER dinner, so he got fed that night, otherwise he'd watch my grandma eat peas until she was sick and he'd be left to fend for himself. He didn't share her love of fresh garden veggies.

And with that sweet memory of my grandma, I wasn't about to insist on Cole eating anything else.

A lesson in sharing

July 14, 2011
This picture did not happen today. But I can't remember what did and really wanted to post this somewhere anyway.

This is Trevin. You've met him before, about a year ago when I took Cole over to meet his future best friend (he's the only kid in our neighborhood Cole's age and lives right next door, so neither have much of a choice). Well, last Friday, Trevin's mom brought him over for a couple of hours until his Dad got home. Cole was super excited to have another pip squeak his own size - and who was also a boy - to play with. Until it dawned on him that Trevin was staying for awhile. And that he wanted his toys. And his water bottle.

Once Trevin spied the water bottle the kid went bonkers until I finally gave him a drink. Which immediately sent Cole into a tizzy fit of hysteria. Apparently, it's not very fun when you have to share (maybe now he will sympathize with his big sister who has begun closing her door so Fern can't get into her stuff). To show Trevin just who was boss around here, Cole snatched the water bottle right out of his hands and then proceeded to fake guzzle it. Taunting him in the process. Poor Trevin, being the youngest by 10 and 14 years to his older brothers, isn't used to sharing either. He threw a fit and screamed and cried! His face in this picture makes me laugh, he was so ticked! And Cole could have cared less.

We're going to have to work on sharing if these two are going to be best friends someday. Or hope Trevin never learns to walk because he's about twice the size of Cole.

Birthday club

July 13, 2011
In an attempt to erase the memories of whiny and barfing children during Jeff's birthday dinner, we went to Baskin Robbins tonight for a free ice cream cone. My husband knows us all too well... we love ice cream. Especially free ice cream. So he signed us all up for the Baskin Robbins' birthday club, where we get a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream on our birthdays. Jeff and Pearl both got some wild-colored ice cream that Pearl always gets whereas I opted for a more grown-up flavor... Oreo. Jeff said I need to get better flavors since Cole spit out the bite I gave him of mine and insisted on eating half of his Dad's. Personally, I don't see anything flawed in my logic. I didn't have to share!

Softball game

July 12, 2011
Even though we should have kept ourselves quarantined all day today - after Cole puking and having the squirts since Friday and then Pearl waking up last night barfing - we all needed to get out of the house this evening! To quote Jeff, who stayed home with me today to help take care of the kiddos, "I can't stay home another day!" Besides, Jeff gave Pearl a blessing after she threw up a few times last night (um, hello! Why didn't we think of this for Cole sooner?) and she woke up happy as could be, ready for Church Softball Night. She loves, loves, loves Tuesday nights because that means a special date with Daddy to watch him play softball. What I really think she gets excited about though are the free hot dogs and nachos. So she packed up her baseball glove, ready to gorge herself on the free food, and give an occasion cheer - or in my case, a heckle - for her Dad. I don't think she was too thrilled that Cole and I spontaneously joined them... Cole practically climbed in the car himself out of fear he was getting left behind.

Oh, and Daryl Strawberry went with us too.

Daryl's been a part of Jeff's live for many years. Not only does Jeff tell Pearl he IS Daryl Strawberry because he is so awesome at baseball, but Daryl even helps out with spiritual matters in our home. He accompanied Jeff to a church talk when we were dating, where Jeff had made a scale replica of the Logan Temple, Daryl serving as surrogate for the Angel Moroni. A few years later the First Presidency came down with this request that folks NOT use any sort of prop or object lesson in Sacrament meeting. Purely coincidental I'm sure.

9 years

July 11, 2011
Nine years down, an eternity to go.

I woke up to find this little note on the calendar. Notice it says my name first. Yeah, we sort of tease each other back and forth about this. When we were dating I chalked "Jeff loves Jenny" in HUGE letters all over Jeff's driveway. He was less than pleased, especially because I had put his name first so it looked like he was self-professing his love for me. Well, he got me back by spray painting a regulation-sized badminton court in my backyard with our initials in the center. And then he totally embarrassed me when he proposed and chalked my driveway, "Will you marry me?"

No chalk "love" notes today, just this sweet gesture. Which Jeff denies he wrote. It sort of made up for the fact that I was stuck at home with a bored four-year-old and her sick brother. I in turn, wrote him nine little love notes of why I love him, on hearts and plastered them all over our closet doors. I'd post what I wrote, but I'm trying to keep this a G-rated blog and spare any future posterity embarrassment :)

Happy anniversary babe! I love you!

Sunday nap

July 10, 2011
Not sleeping a whole lot lately due to a sick baby and just poor decision making on my part to stay up and make blog books, hit me like a truck the second I sat down on the love seat after church today. I'm not sure why I always seem to fall asleep on the smallest piece of furniture we own. But somehow I manage to scrunch my 5'10" frame onto the couch. And today, I had a little visitor. He wasn't too happy about being ignored so he woke me up and I laid him down next to me. I figured he'd start freaking out and decide his Dad was more interesting. I was really glad I was wrong.

Just a little crabby

July 9, 2011
Cole has been a little crabby today. Hence, the shirt I got in Baltimore a few years ago for Pearl that says, "Just a little crabby."

Not that I blame him. Last night during Jeff's birthday dinner, he puked all over the place. Luckily he waited to spew until after we had eaten and were leaving the restaurant. He continued to throw up all night so Cole and slept on the floor together so I could hold his poor little head up.
Once the barfing stopped, the other end has been sick. Yeah, that was fun. And it ruined our plans to go to Cherry Hills Resort with my brother and his family. Oh well. Hopefully he gets feeling better in a few days.

It's moments like these when you realize you really are a parent. Staying up all night to hold a sick baby and wishing you could be sick for them.

Family history book

July 8, 2011
I finally finished a project I said I was going to finish oh, so long ago.

To turn my blogs into a book. Or in my case four books. The first arrived today and Pearl wouldn't put it down. She told me it was her new favorite book. It was so much fun to hold my blog in my hands and flip through all the pictures, stories, rants, and emotions.

I just happened to procrastinate this project long enough to score some sweet deals. First, blog2print had a 15% off sale. I used blog2print to turn my blog into a pdf file because I refused to pay $200 to have them turn it into a book. And that was just for one book... I had four to make. Then I happened to stumble upon a friend's blog post about lulu.com, a professional publishing service. She had used blog2print to make a pdf of her blog then used lulu to have it printed in a hardcover book. So I procrastinated some more, just long enough to find out lulu was having a first-time author sale. I got $25 off my books, making it super reasonable to print them all! And the result is beautiful. My only regret is that I don't upload my pictures to my blog in a bigger size.

I'm excited to have something my kids (and myself) can read through over the years and laugh at, cry with, and cherish.

Streaker

July 7, 2011
The millisecond his diaper comes off, Cole takes off running. And giggling. And grabbing hold of something as he does so. Maybe it helps with balance?

It must be a boy thing.

Spontaneous

July 6, 2011
I'm not very spontaneous.

For example, we live right across the street from the city's pool. Every day Pearl looks out the window and gasps in excitement because the pool is finally open. You'd think I could lug the two dwarfs across the street for a spontaneous afternoon of splashing, cooling down, and water fun, but nope. Even more pathetic, we bought a 25 punch pass just for spontaneous swimming adventures this summer.

Well, today as we turned the corner to head home, Pearl's excited squeals got to me. I was tired of being a boring, un-spontaneous, mom. I don't even have to tell you Pearl's reaction when I asked her if she wanted to go to the pool when we got home. She ran through the house squealing, "YEAHHHHH!!!! We're going to the pool!!!!" It was a fun couple of hours trying to keep one eye on Pearl in the midst of hundreds of other kids and the other eye on Cole who kept climbing out of his floatie because he's a big boy now.

I just might try this spontaneous thing again. Minus the two starving kids when we got home and rush to get dinner cooked while standing in the kitchen in my wet swimming suit. And forgetting the camera, hence an old picture of Cole refusing to share his Popsicle after a splash in the pool a few weeks ago.

Subway

July 5, 2011
This might seem like an odd picture for today but I tell you, it was a huge step for me.

Huge.

It's been almost two years since I last ate a Subway sandwich. Something about puking up the Italian BMT one too many times when I was pregnant with Cole gave me serious anxiety even driving by a Subway. But with few lunch options around my work, and no desire to eat any more crap food after a weekend of gluttony at Bear Lake, I ended up at Subway. I told myself over and over again, you can do it... at some point you'll have to eat one again... you won't get sick... you can stomach it.

I almost threw the entire sandwich away I was so scared to eat it. When I'm pregnant, everything tastes horrid and everything comes back up. I learn to just eat what I think I can stomach, even if it's the same thing every day for weeks on end. Well, at one point during my pregnancy with Cole it was the Italian BMT from Subway. But that phase ended abruptly. I can still taste the last one I barfed up with Cole and can still see the toilet seat in my head as I ran in from the garage knowing full well what was about to happen. It burned. It was gross. And I swore I would never eat another Subway again.

Firework

July 4, 2011
This picture isn't really from today. It's from the Logan Fireworks Show on Friday. But it makes for a good story. And shows off my camera skills using my tripod for the first time.

Pearl is obsessed with Katy Perry's song "Firework." Obsessed people. She asks me to play it on the radio at least three times on the drive to work and three times on the way home. And she doesn't take no (or in this case, I can't control the radio Pearl) for an answer. There's just something about the song's beat and lyrics that Pearl loves. She sings the chorus - or her made up version - so much that we've enacted a new rule in the house. No Katy Perry unless she is actually listening to the song. Otherwise the "ah, ah, ah" (or is it "uh, uh, uh"?) gets a bit annoying and weird.

For obvious reasons, every radio station has been gearing up for the 4th of July by playing the "Firework" song. We were lucky enough to hear it twice one day, once on the way to school and once on the way home. At which point, Pearl exclaimed, "Mom, it's Katy Perry day!"

Happy 4th of July!

Public beach

July 3, 2011
Bear Lake is high. And I mean really high.

The last time I remember the beach disappearing was about 11 years ago. Back in the glory years with a tight, in-shape body who bathed in the sun every week on my day off. A tad too much sun I'm afraid. That and the mistake of dumping baby oil all over my pasty white stomach to see if it really would burn. Yeah, for a good two years after that burn, every time I had a hot shower you could see my swimming suit lines. Oops.

Anyway... back to the beach.

Pearl really wanted to play on the sand. Well, seeing as how there is no beach this year, we decided to try the public beach.

Let's just say we quickly realized we'd keep our trailer trash accommodations for the luxury of having our own private beach any day. I'm sure everyone around us thought we were crazy when we got out of the cars and just stood there with dumbfounded looks on our faces. There were a gazillion people everywhere. Definitely not something we are used to. Plus, we felt like we had to stay until the kids were starving just to make our $16 entrance fee worth it.

But the kids had fun. Jeff buried Pearl alive, Cole covered himself in sand, and Ruby had fun splashing in the mucky, weedy, gross water (since the lake is so high, it's covering all the willows and reeds now). And in the end, if the kids have a good time that's all that really matters.

Perfect weather

July 2, 2011
Yes, you are seeing what I'm seeing.

Sprinklers.

Sunshine.

Shorts and tee-shirts.

And most importantly, no snow at Bear Lake.

It's about time.

Cruze

July 1, 2011
Remember my failed attempt at driving lessons?

Well, nearly two years after buying the Audi, I finally told Jeff it wasn't going to happen. I'm never going to learn to drive a stick. At least not anytime soon. It's not that I don't want to learn. I just have certain criteria to learn, like not having our kids screaming for their lives in the back seat. We just never were able to find a good chunk of time without the dwarfs to have driving lesson #2.

So this afternoon we picked up a brand new 2011 Chevy Cruze. Which, as of today, is the number one selling car in America. Great. I'll never be able to find it in the parking lot now. It's not our dream car, but we got an awesome interest rate on our loan, cashed in nearly $4,000 in GM card points, and decided it will be a good vehicle for our family. And besides, Jeff gets his truck back.
Apparently it smells like a girl and needs a good spraying of WD-40 to make it more manly.

Jeff and I have a deal... he picks the vehicle and I pick the color. Jeff thought I'd go for this ice blue color but I surprised him when I said I wanted the black with titanium in the paint. It's shiny. Duh. Girls like shiny things... like diamonds. The picture doesn't do the paint job justice but trust me, it sparkles. And it's oh so clean. Now if I can just keep it that way.

Can I have a puppy?

June 30, 2011
I guess I'm not the only one who is puppy hungry after meeting Rex and Maddox because Cole has been dragging this little guy around the house every day for a week. And while he isn't nearly as cute and playful as the pups, there are a few advantages to Cole's puppy. Like no scooping poop and an "off" switch when we get sick and tired of the barking.

Craving

June 29, 2011
I don't usually have cravings. But with summer finally here, and limes super cheap, I've had a hankering for something lime-y.

Like these lime bars. Ironically, I worked with Maria at the health department before she became a food blogger extraordinaire.

The refreshing taste of limes on a hot summer day, coupled with the sweetness of sweetened condensed milk, and the crunch of a buttery graham cracker crust was just too much to resist. Besides, I needed something for F.H.E. yesterday. And so tonight, three days after making lime bars, I've eaten all but four squares of the entire batch.

My hips will regret this decision. But my mouth is enjoying every morsel.

F.H.E.

June 28, 2011
I felt a surge of guilt yesterday for not holding regular, well any, Family Home Evenings. Now that we've got scripture study down for the most part, I decided we needed to step up our spiritual game and add a weekly family night.

There was moaning and groaning and a lot of eye rolling when I made the announcement. I told Jeff it was a matter of our kids' spiritual exaltation at stake. And how can you argue with that?

My mother-in-law just so happened to give us a collection of pictures and photos from the scriptures. It's the perfect tool to get us in the habit of doing something, anything on Monday nights. I decided we were going to learn about Ammon, since we should at some point this week read about this story in the Book of Mormon. Besides what kid (or husband) doesn't love a good arm-chopping off story? Pearl picked the song, I gave the lesson, and Jeff ate the dessert.

It wasn't too bad after all. Now if we can just keep it up week after week.
