My baby turned one today.
I am in complete denial.
To prove my refusal to believe Cole is now a big boy, I made him wear this goofy, baby outfit that had a big cupcake on it and "Baby's 1st birthday" written across it. It was not becoming of a big boy, especially one who needs a hair cut every month!
The girls I work with even threw Cole a mini-party during staff meeting today. They brought a cake and let him dig into a slice of it. I was grateful he wasn't in much of a cake destroying mood - with his cold, teeth coming in, and not sleeping well last night - because I really didn't want to try and wash orange frosting out of his clothes. He sort of poked at it with a spoon and then squashed some frosting between his fingers. I have a feeling though this was a good warm up for his party on Saturday.
And since I puked my guts out for nine months and continue to sacrifice sleep for this handsome little devil, I figured I better get a picture with the birthday boy so someday he knows how much I love my baby. Always, always my baby (even when he's 16 and embarrassed by me telling him that).

Kami, Fern is short for LaVernius. It's a long story... Jeff wanted to name him after some football player LaVernius Coles. He said he was going to call him LaVernius since I ex-nayed that for his name. If you know Jeff, he has a nickname for everyone. So he started calling him LaVernius but Pearl couldn't pronounce it. She would say "Fernius" and Jeff thought it was hilarious. Fernius stuck but then it got shortened to Fern. It's fitting and Cole answers to Fern! So ya, now you know!
Poor dude! Tell J to give that kid a manly nickname! :)
Happy Birthday "little man" (which sounds much better than Fern but doesn't have near the story toi go with it). Doesn't your mommy look so pretty in this picture? I have always thought she was as pretty on the outside as on the inside and she is beautiful there! She and your daddy love you so much. Hope all your birthdays are grand! Patty Jones
Fern is not a manly as Jet or Rock. but those names got ex-nayed too.
So FERN it is! And I dare anyone to tell him is isn't :)
